About the Role

As a Financial Planning Tools Intern, you will help support and enhance the financial planning software used by Ameriprise advisors. These tools help advisors evaluate whether clients are on track to meet their financial goals and identify practical actions to improve outcomes. This role is ideal for students currently enrolled in a CFP® Board‑Registered academic program who are interested in how financial planning concepts are translated into scalable tools, platforms, and advisor resources.

 

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities vary by project and may include:

  • Analyze and explore Ameriprise financial planning software to understand planning logic, workflows, and user experience
  • Apply financial planning concepts (retirement, insurance, investment, education, estate planning) to validate assumptions and calculations within planning tools
  • Participate in testing and quality review to confirm software enhancements function as intended and align with financial planning principles
  • Develop clear, concise documentation and reference materials to support advisor use of new planning features
  • Assist with troubleshooting and researching more complex or escalated planning‑tool questions
  • Collaborate with internal partners to understand how financial planning concepts are applied in advisor‑facing platforms

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree through a CFP® Board‑Registered undergraduate program (e.g., Financial Planning or Personal Financial Planning)
  • Anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or May/June 2027

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in the financial planning profession and CFP® certification pathway
  • Ability to apply financial planning concepts to hypothetical client situations
  • Detail‑oriented with the ability to assess accuracy and consistency in financial information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
  • Proven organizational and time‑management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Solid understanding of basic statistics and mathematical concepts
